I was covering one of my most taught classes today, on hip to hip side control. It's always handy teaching it in the daytime class in preparation for the big evening classes, as even with classes I've been teaching for years, I learn new things in the process. E.g., heavily emphasising that you don't want to strain when escaping in the no arms drill, as you can hurt your neck doing that (which I've done before).
I got in some fun rolls with Matt H and Adrienne, testing slow and steady passing with the former, a few sweeps with the latter. Adrienne's defence is super tight so it's tough to get anything. I struggled to get any kind of lasso because she was defending well with her elbows. However, getting into the position for the lasso sweep, where your leg is across their stomach, I found it was an easy switch to that simple x guard sweep Henk showed me. Also, playing with swivel kick sweeps, I sometimes forget how useful they are from closed guard.
