I'm a 36 year old fit-ish male, albeit with a slight beer-belly, whose considering joining the local BJJ club. I'm popping along to watch tomorrow and, I have to say, I can't think of any original questions I need to ask after perusing this beauty of an article. You put to rest one personal niggle after another. Can't thank you enough.
Very comprehensive, mate. Your training blog has encouraged me to take that step into the grappler's world ( and set up my own training blog as well ;) )
Thanks Sergio! Glad you found it useful: good luck with your training! :)
In case anyone is wondering, I do read every comment, but I don't always respond on here. I thought John's suggestion was good, so I've since had a go at adding that to the FAQ. ;)
Slidey,
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent! If you hadn't planned to do so, you should put a book together.
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to do a book some day, once I've got the experience to back it up.
Something which is both great and awful about the internet is that anyone can publish anything they want, with no editor to answer to. ;)
This is a great beginners FAQ!

ReplyDeleteThanks, slidey, and see you on the mats someday.
Thanks Slidey, lots of interesting material, great blog
ReplyDeleteHi Slidey, I also thought about it and I think what is missing is a decent explanation of what the rules are for BJJ (which techniques are illegal).
ReplyDeletePeople go to compete for the first time and the rules raise a bunch of questions. Could be good for the FAQ
Wow! This is a perfect ultimate introduction into bjj. Just started this amazing sport and this post gave me a lot of insight info, thanks.
